At Spotswood College in Taranaki, sustainability is not just something that runs alongside their curriculum, it’s embedded into their curriculum every week.
Impact Inquiry is based on the global sustainability goals and is scaffolded to enable students to undertake their own project in response to their research on the global goals.
This year three students were able to set up an apiary at the school, to learn about beekeeping and use the resulting honey and beeswax to create naturopathy products. The 3 students spent a lot of time designing the garden where the apiary is situated and worked with a local beekeeper to install the hives. Alongside this they also designed a logo and the packaging for the honey.
