Environmental sustainability and improving our environmental footprint is at the heart of everything we do. We use plant-based ingredients that are grey water and septic tank safe. These ingredients are also biodegradable, breaking down into mineral and plant material which is better for the environment. Our packaging is recyclable, and we have started moving our Household Cleaning range to bottles made from 75% recycled plastic.
Earthwise has pioneered eco-friendly cleaning in New Zealand for over 50 years and continues to look for ways to reduce our impact on the environment.
HOUSEHOLD CLEANING BOTTLES ARE MADE FROM 75% RECYCLED MATERIALS, SOURCED FROM MILK, JUICE AND WATER BOTTLES. BOTTLES ACROSS THE REST OF OUR RANGE ARE STILL RECYCLABLE (NO. 1 AND 2) AND WILL MOVE TO BOTTLES MADE FROM RECYCLED PLASTIC IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
DISHWASHER TABLETS ARE INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED IN A BIODEGRADABLE FILM THAT DISSOLVES IN YOUR MACHINE.
OUR BOXES ARE 100% RECYCLABLE.
OUR SHIPPER CARTONS ARE RECYCLABLE AND
MADE FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS.
Whilst our bottles are already recyclable, we’ve taken this a step further by manufacturing bottles made from a minimum of 75 percent recycled plastic across our cleaning product range. These bottles are sourced from milk, water and juice bottles and have already started appearing on supermarket shelves.
Earthwise has moved the largest range of Grocery household cleaning products, to locally manufactured bottles using a minimum of 75% recycled plastic. Since October 2018, we have reused and diverted approximately 132 tonnes of plastic from landfill.
By mid-2019, all the bottles in our cleaning range will be made from 75% recycled plastic. You may notice a slight change in the colour of our bottles as they become more eco-friendly – but we believe that’s a small price to pay to care for our world. We have also committed to change the Earthwise Nourish personal care bottles to 100% recycled plastic soon.
We have pledged our support for the New Zealand Plastic Packaging Declaration to have 100 percent of our packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025 or earlier. In addition, we have recently joined the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment. The global commitment will provide a platform for the company to collaborate with like-minded and passionate businesses towards a common goal of establishing a circular economy for plastic.
We take a holistic view to reduce our use of virgin plastic wherever possible. We have removed the plastic bag from our laundry powder packaging through the investment in new packaging equipment, and we do not use plastic shrink wrapping on any of our products.
“It’s important we manage the full life cycle of plastic, not just the end of the process, so that all plastic can be reused instead of sent to landfill. We know we can’t tackle the plastic issue alone and are proud to be part of the ground swell of change” Jamie Peters, Managing Director.

THAT LOCAL FEEL
Earthwise remains proudly locally owned and operated. With the Peters family continuing the Earthwise’s legacy to create products that are natural, environmentally friendly and don’t cost the earth for New Zealand families.
We choose to work with other local New Zealand businesses to support our economy and reduce our carbon footprint. Where possible we locally source components when making our products, including raw ingredients, product packaging, bottles and shipper cartons.
Our products are made right here in New Zealand too, at our Factory based in Auckland.
Behind the scenes in our state of the art Auckland based factory, we also follow environmental practices that take into consideration the full life cycle of a product, including manufacturing.
We have a firm process in place to manage the level of wastage and our waste streams, meaning all cardboard is recycled separately to plastic, to efficiently reduce our contribution to landfill. We also take care to ensure items such as the large bottles we receive our ingredients in, are recyclable.
We also work to continually reduce energy and water consumption as much as possible.
